FAQ

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

There are lots of vaiables when it comes to the cost of an EV charger installation. Type of charger, length of cable required, difficulty of the cable route etc.

As a guide we tell our potential customers to expect a standard installation (assuming OZEV grant is deducted) to cost between £750 and £850.

A standard installation will take between 3 to 5 hours. Some companies will quote 2 hours, but we take the time to tidy up after ourselves and spend a bit of time ensuring the client is happy before we leave.

Quality | Integrity | Value are the 3 principles we hold ourselves accountable too.

Throughout this website we make reference to the term ‘standard installation’. So what is this exactly?

The term refers to a typical installation that makes up 80% to 90% of our works.

A standard installation includes:

* Up to 10M of cable.

* An RCD and appropriate enclosure.

* Any sundries required.

* Installation, commisioning and Wifi set up

Around 10% of surveys we recieve/carryout are ‘Non-standard’. This is no problem at all, these installations generally just need more materials and additional labour to complete.

Because of these additional requirements the cost of installation naturally increases.

Some examples that make your installation non-standard include:

* Fusebox/Meter located in the middle of the home (not on a perimeter wall).

* Cable run of more than 10 Meters.

* Cable needs buried in a trench or under paving.

A common question asked is how secure are these chargers? Can anyone use them.

All smart chargers are Wifi enabled. Customers have an App on their phones whereby they can ‘lock’ the charger.

The fear around energy theft can be overcome when looked at objectivley, for someone to steal your electricity they would need:

* To have an electric vehicle themselves.

* To be in your driveway for 8 to 10 hours.

* A very brass neck!

No, the charger is a piece of electrical equipment and as such must be installed by a qualified (more importantly competent) electrican.

You will be glad to hear that all of our engineers are both qualified and competent to carryout these EV charging installations.

EVCNI are a sister company of FCS Services Ltd and are fully insured and accredited.

Yes, EV chargers are designed and manufacted to be installed outside.

As long as installation is carried out correctly and the IP rating of the charger is not compromised then there will be no problems with water ingress.

This will all depend on who your energy provider is and also if you have a night rate tariff.

As a guide you could be paying approx 16p per unit of electricity meaning if you charge your EV from Zero to Full, approximatley 8 to 10 hours it would cost you £10 to £12.

Now if you sign up to a dual tariff meter you could be paying as little as 9p per unit between the hours of 1am and 8am, bringing the cost of a charge down to around £5.

With fuel costs on the rise you can agree that this is cheap mileage.

You can indeed! Power NI have launched a new tariff with low cost rates at night.

Check out their website www.powerni.co.uk for more details.

Unfortunatley not at the moment however technological advances in this sector are rapid and a solution could be on its way.

Until then you would have to make use of NI’s public charging network, not ideal as we are way behind the rest of the UK and Ireland with charging infrastructure. However plans and funding are in place and we should see improvements soon.

As an OZEV registered installer we take hassle out of the grant process on your behalf. The quote you recieve will have the £350.00 grant deducted already (assuming you are eligible).

Note that the Home Charging Scheme is due to end April 2022, this date is a cut off meaning all installations must be complete and paperwork submitted prior to this date.

There will be new grants available but unfortunatley not for home owners.

The current Workplace Charging Scheme will remain.

There are certain criteria that must be met before you are eligible for the OZEV grant. These criteria can be found on the www.gov.uk website.
